Friday and out

Friday has come and all is well and great.

I'm off for a lovely holiday so this'll be the last blog post for a couple of weeks.

I leave you with a few unused panels from The Compliment.

Have a good ol' July now!

Nothings Rhymes with Thursday

I really wanted a clever rhyming blog title this morning, but oh well.

The weekend is nearly here and then I'm off on a lovely holiday with the fam.

Here's a few Archie concept sketches. Not that Archie. The other Archie.

More Inappropriate Trekness

Hi ho!

Here's some more Sex Trek outtakes for your amusement:

In other news, I saw a terrific documentary the other day called My Kid Could Paint That, about a 4 year old girl that may or may not be a fine art prodigy.

It's an excellent and thought provoking film that starts out about one thing and turns into something else, all about the nature of truth, lies, exploitation and the meaning and value of conceptual art. It's not boring or high-falutin' at all though. There's also a great extra on the DVD with the New York Times art critic expounding on modern and conceptual art that is endlessly fascinating. The most down-to-earth, concise and accessible explanation of concept art I've ever heard. Highly entertaining and highly recommended. Check it out.

Deleted Scenes

Hey-ho!
It's Monday morning and the start of week two of the big Zuda Invitational extravaganza!

This week we'll be featuring deleted scenes from this month's Untrue Tale The Compliment.
Well, not so much deleted scenes as afterthought scenes.

Hopefully they'll be good for a snicker or two. So without further ado:

Eight is great

At least that's what I keep telling myself. So the first ranking is in and Untrue Tales in languishing in the depths of eighth. Ah well, I had no hopes of winning this thing but I was kinda hoping for a higher rank than the last outing. That's what I get for being too lazy for marketing.

My placement aside, the overall rankings kinda took me by surprise. I was dead certain The Crooked Man would be at the top of the heap, closely followed by Brave Ulysses. That's me with my finger on the pulse of Zuda. In any event, we're at least assured an interesting winner this month with so many quality comics in the competition.

But you didn't come here for the jibberjab, didja? I know you, you hunger for the sketch, the doodle, the peek behind the curtain.

Okeydoke. Here's Gabe looking ever-so handsome:

Have a good weekend!

Filling in the blanks

Good Thursday, my friends!

Gonna try and gear up the ol' production blog here with some background info and sketches and the like.

So in our latest tale The Compliment we finally meet Gabe's best pal Archie. Previously unseen but mentioned prominently in the beloved classic episode, An Incident on 32nd Street. Haven't read that one?

Check it out here:

Or bathed in glorious Rob Berry watercolor here:

And here's a sketch of the well-tooled francophile himself:

That's it for now. Toodles!

What's it all about, Alfie?

I suppose there's the offhand chance that some new visitors may be showing up round these parts via Zuda, looking for the sitch, the lowdown, the whonow and the whatnow.

So if you're new and on the hunt for more Untrue Tales and extras and background info and the like, please allow me to direct you to the Untrue Tales website, at which you'll find a bunch more salacious stories to calm your comic jones:

We've also got a gallery over there with sketches and banners and all manner of knickedy knacks:

Fun for the whole family. In the meantime, I'll be posting some new doodles and sketches from The Compliment right here on the blog every day or so, in an attempt to capture your oh so fleeting attention, dear reader.

Here's one now:

More later!

It's On!

The 2008 Zuda invitational is up and running!

It's gonna be an exciting month. For me anyway. I don't harbor a hope in happy heckfire of winning this darn thing (I'm guessing it's gonna be a bareknuckle cage brawl between The Crooked Man and Brave Ulysses. Dang, those are some really REALLY top quality comics) but I hope all you true blue unbelievers will lend a hand to give Untrue Tales at least a strong showing.

Here are a couple of nifty banner type thingies if you'd like to show your support for Untrue Tales all across the vast wastes of the interthing:

Now head on over to Zuda and vote for your favorite!

Unencumbered by updates

It's Thursday! It's update day! And yet....there is no update.

Y'see, the big Zuda Invitational thingy begins on Monday so it seems kinda silly to slap up page one of a new story and then leave it hanging for the month of July.

So you'll have to wait until Monday for a whole month's worth of new stuff served up in one dang day.

Until then, allow me to point out a couple of additions to the site that I've slyly slipped in while you weren't paying attention.

Firstly, I've added a high-falutin' introduction with musical snippets and everything.

You can check that out here:

http://www.untruetales.com/Pages/Introduction1.html

Secondly, I've slipped in the original black and white version of An Incident on 32nd Street. Check that out here:

http://www.untruetales.com/Pages/Incident32.pg1.html

You can still enjoy the full-color version of that one and others over at Amalgamated Artists:

http://www.amalgamatedartists.com/

So there you go. A veritable smorgasbord of stuff to keep you occupied during the interminable wait until Monday.

Have a grand weekend!

What to do? What to do?

It's a whole week to the big Zuda thingamaboo. The June contest is done. How to fill the days?
Well, here's a doodle:

If you're feeling bored and in the mood to help your fellow internerd, feel free to pop over to the Untrue Tales Zuda page and refresh it a few thousand times. It helps my self-esteem when the view count is boosted.
