Zudajune

The new ZUDA crops been up for a bit over a week now and, boy howdy, is it a tough group of contenders this month. I'd be happy to see the top spot awarded to any number of these comics, but two in particular have really tickled my fancy.

My vote this month goes to Sharks + Shrinks by Gary Epting. Gary was a previous contender with  A Spelunker's Guide to the City which I also loved, but this story is a bit more immediately accessible than Spelunker's.  It's a dark little story about the perils of the restaurant business and the personalities one might find lurking in the kitchen or the busman's station. The artwork is indescribably awesome. Each individual page functions as a cohesive whole as well as moving the story forward. This thing really is genius on parade. Check it out:

Runner-up in my book is Dual. This is the first superhero riff on Zuda that's really found a new and interesting angle. The art on this one is also fantastic, with a fully painted feel. From where the rankings stand at the moment, this one looks like it has a chance to go all the way.

So give these a look as well as the other very impressive entries this month over at Zuda!
